Most players in this tournament had one job. Hit, or pitch. Priyanshu did both, and he was genuinely good at both, and the numbers prove it in a way that is hard to argue with.
Start on the mound. His ERA was 6.00. In the context of a 16.03 tournament average, that is an excellent number. But the ERA is actually the least interesting part of his pitching line. His batting average against was .182. The lowest in the entire tournament among pitchers with three or more innings. Hitters could not touch him. His WHIP of 1.33 confirms it. The six runs he gave up in three innings came in clumps, not from consistent hard contact. The batters who faced him were mostly lost.
Now flip to the other side of the plate. Batting average of .833. OBP of .857. OPS of 2.524. Five RBIs. Three doubles. A triple. In seven plate appearances, he was one of the most productive offensive players in the tournament. His OPS of 2.524 ranked fourth among all players with five or more PA, and the three players above him each had more plate appearances to work with.
The two-way player label gets thrown around loosely. Priyanshu earned it specifically. Not just “can pitch and hit” in the vague sense, but “has actual production data on both sides that hold up against a 195-player field.” That is different.
His team finished 3-1 and third in the standings. When you look at what Priyanshu contributed in both directions, the gap between Outreach and first place looks a lot narrower than the win-loss columns suggest.
What this teaches: The two-way profile is real and measurable. When a player contributes meaningfully on both sides, the total value to the team is compounded. One player doing two jobs well is not twice as valuable. It is more than that, because you are adding offensive production and subtracting opponents’ offensive production simultaneously.
